Please submit 2-3 paragraphs on your plans after graduating from St. Joseph's College.
My journey to St. Josephs College was not easy. I remember it was two years ago after a long job interview which did not go well. I was on my way home from the interview, feeling a little depressed. I took the Number 2 train heading to Flatbush, Brooklyn. While sitting in the third subway car, I saw an ad for Metropolitan College of New York (MCNY). The ad stated that you can earn your degree in two years and eight months. This ad was appealing to me because it was different from other colleges where it would take 4 years to attain a bachelor’s degree. I wrote down the number and called the next day. I spoke to Sean who was an admissions counselor at MCNY. I made an appointment later that week to come in for an information session.
On January 9th, 2008, I enrolled full time at MCNY. At the beginning of the semester, I was a little lost. In the middle of the semester I found myself adjusting to the college life. The first semester went by fast, and I did well. My Grade Point Average (G.P.A) for the semester was 3.5 out of 4.0. I was very proud of myself. During my five semesters at MCNY, I was fortunate to maintain an impressive G.P.A.
This semester is my third semester at St. Joseph’s college, at this moment I’m a part-time student, my main objective is to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Community Health and Human Services with a certificate in Counseling. However, the main reason why I chose this major is because I work as an Admissions Counselor, and this course would allow me to advance my skills in a professional level. Furthermore, I could use my degree and take advantage of my skills to utilize it at my work place with my clients. My schedule graduation date is for the winter of 2010, at this point I do not know exactly my plans; but I do know that I would like to pursue my Master’s degree either in Education or in psychology. In the near future I want to relocate to North Carolina. At this moment the state of North Carolina has more jobs opportunity in early child education than in New York State, and this is a new area that I would like to explore deeply to become a teacher in the near future.
How do I Get Inspired? I find that conferences can be inspiring. I not only learn new things, but I meet other people who are passionate about what they do and it is contagious. I recently attended a 3-day conference and took away many new ideas that I would probably not have thought of if I was just sitting in my office answering yet more e-mail. A conference typically allows you to get away and clear your brain of your task list and set it free. I know that in this time of economic challenges that you may not be able to attend some of the big conferences out there. I would suggest for you a local investment conference. These are great opportunities to meet people in your local area. They tend to be free and their agenda tends to be created by the attendees themselves.
