Issue Proposal
Before you begin your issue proposal you need to formulate a research question. Your issue must be current (within the last 5 years). You must have my approval before beginning your Issue Proposal. The question you choose will be the focus of your research paper, so take some time to consider your research question. If the proposal you did for your WCW homework was based on an arguable research question you want to pursue, you can use it as a rough draft of your issue proposal.
An issue proposal is comprised of three parts:
The first paragraph introduces the issue you will be handling in your research paper. It should be written in third person. You need to discuss some of the history of this issue (for example, Roe vs. Wade if you are dealing with abortion or some of the recent school shootings if you are dealing with gun control). You will need to end this discussion with your research question.
The second paragraph explains why this issue is compelling to you. You need to write this in first person. Why did you pick this issue? Do you have some experience in it either personally or vicariously? Is it related somehow to the field you are entering? Remember that it is important to have an interest in your issue (you will be working with it for many weeks).
The third paragraph explains what more you think you need to learn and how you plan to get that information, so you can answer your research question. This needs to be written if first person. Consider the sources you might have to consult: journals (name some), newspapers (name some), Internet (name some website), authorities in the field, television programs, etc.

UPDATE/MODIFICATION OF ISSUE PROPOSAL: THE CONTROVERSIES SURROUNDING THE HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS VACCINE.
ReplyDeleteThe human papilloma virus, through investigations is established to be the overwhelming cause of cancer of the cervix, and spread essentially through sexual contact.
Currently there is no treatment for HPV infection. However, in June 2006,the Food and Drug Administration(FDA)approved a vaccine against HPV for use in women. This vaccine(Gardasil) targets HPV strains 6 and 11,reported to be the cause of 90% of genital warts, and the major strains causing cervical cancer, 16 and 18. Added to this is the decision by the Center for Disease Control(CDC)in July 2006 to recommend Gardasil for 11-12 year old American girls, and even 9 year old girls if sexually active is considered highly controversial and parents are balking at the idea.
This paper will review the strong relationship between cervical cancer and HPV,and other enabling conditions, and issues surrounding the recommendation of the HPV vaccine especially why it is being recommended at such a tender age group, the science behind this thinking and the reasons a lot of parents are balking at the idea or recommendation.

ReplyDeleteGun violence in schools has skyrocketed in the country since the massacre at the Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. There are many factors that surface in many discussions that take place around the issue of gun violence and schools. Among these issues are the accessibility to guns by children, the laws surrounding the purchase and use of guns, the identification of behavior traits and other characteristics of the perpetrators of such brutality, security measures , and the culture of cruelty to which school aged children are exposed through television, song lyrics, video games and movies. With references to gun accessibility, what measures should have been implemented that could have prevented the incidents in the schools across our country? Those massacres could have been prevented if more inflexible gun laws had been in place in the United States.
I feel very strongly about the lack of gun control in our country because my friend Moussa Cisse a senior student at Virginia Tech at the time of the killing rampage that took place there in April 16, 2007. Though my friend was not injured in the incident, he was in the cafeteria and witnessed the murder of three students and one of the faculty members. We have had many long serious and heartbreaking conversations since about the shootings and the subsequent debates on gun control.
I need to know the forces that shape legislation on gun control, the laws that were in place in 1999, the substance of the debates pro and con on the subject of gun control, the particulars of how the perpetrator at the Virginia Tech was able to get access to guns, the best thinking at the time and since regarding the role played by the lack of legislation, and the nature and effects of any gun legislation enacted after the fact. I will need to consult local Virginia and national newspapers, laws journals, the Virginia Tech website, etc.

ReplyDeleteA heart attack is an event that results in permanent heart damage or death. It is also know as a myocardial infarction, because part of the heart muscle (myocardium) may literally die (infarct). A heart attack occurs when one of the coronary arteries become severely or totally blocked, usually by a blood clot. When the heart muscle does not receive the oxygen–rich blood that it needs, it will begin to die. Heart attack is one of the most chronic diseases that are killing thousands of people in the United States, because of the lack of good nutrition and medical prevention.
I chose this topic because I almost died of a pre-heart attack. My life almost ended because of the lack of information about the disease and the eating habit that I used to have. After that issue I have being doing many researches about the disease. I feel very lucky that I have the opportunity to do this paper that going to allow me to learn more and teach other about the heart disease.
This paper will review the strong relationship between the lacks of good nutrition, medical prevention and heart attack. I will explain why heart attack occur, what are the symptoms of a heart attack, the different types of surgery and new equipment that exist in nowadays which hospital performed and what is the cost. This research paper will be one of the most important in my life because it will make a different for me many people.

ReplyDeleteDomestic violence is considered a national crime; however, there is a debate over whether some reports are exaggerated and what types of punishment should be doled out.
Of all the violent crimes in the world, domestic violence seems to be the one that is the least serious when it comes to punishment. Domestic violence victims are often hiding and not reporting crimes that are happening for fear of their lives and their own well being. In the U.S.A., about 1.5 million women a year are assaulted by a husband or boyfriend, and about one in six women have been sexually assaulted at some time in their life, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Why are the offenders of this crime going free, when they should be serving mandatory prison sentences of the heinous nature of the crime?
I feel strongly about punishment for domestic violence in our country, because I was a victim of it. Though I was physically, mentally and emotionally abuse nothing was done; no punishment was given to my ex-husband who did these vicious acts. Because I wasn’t bleeding through my nose or my face wasn’t battered from the beating at the time when the police arrive they the officers refuse to take it as a domestic violence case, according to them they needed more evidence.
In this paper I will argue if all domestic violence cases are true and what punishment should be given for false report. I will need to consult the national newspaper, encyclopedias, journal of family violence. I will also consult the domestic violence advice article.

The percentage of Teenagers abusing of substances is increasing. Studies show that men start drinking alcohol at the age of eleven and women at thirteen. The first time teenagers use these substances they feel pleasure. As they enjoyed of that pleasure they continue using substances thinking that they could stop when they want. At first time they use drugs and alcohol voluntarily, but as time passes the person goes from being voluntarily drug and alcohol user to a compulsive user. Alcohol and drugs abuse in teenagers may affect their lives by acquiring health diseases, provoking accidents, and destroying the family union. Fortunately people who are facing with this issue have the option of institutions that treat this addiction by behavioral-based therapy.
ReplyDeleteDrugs and alcohol abuse in teenagers are destroying many families. I choose this topic because I am experiencing with this issue in my own family. My cousin who is eighteen years old started using alcohol when he was thirteen years old. The lack of supervision of his parents and the bad influence that his friends had in him drove him to continue using these substances. At the end of January he abused of these substances mixing them and had a terrible consequence in his life. He was in the hospital and his brain was totally damaged. Now he has to be during a long time or maybe his whole life in a psychiatric clinic. The family is destroyed specially his parents that are spending all their time in finding a solution to the problem. I want to make conscience that substance abuse brings bad consequences that can be irreversible.
I will search information of the consequences of these addictions and how we can help people to stop using these substances. I will look for institutions and methods that could help to people introduced in this problem.

ReplyDeleteImplementing change in communities in poverty is an on-going issue that has been faced in America over the decades. Currently, due to the hardship which we face today; America communities will continue to face this issue of low levels of income, lack of access to services like education, markets, health care, lack of decision making ability, and lack of communal facilities like water, sanitation, roads, transportation, and communications. How can we implement a change to help improve and build a stronger community in poverty?
Living in a community which is facing poverty, it is hard to just sit back and not take part of a plan to help build up a better community. Serving as a community activist to help implement change, I want to know more about how I can develop and create new ideas to help form a better community. I want to learn which areas I need to tackle more?
This paper will focus on different areas to help provide change in communities facing poverty. It will help me learn how to plan to view people living in poverty differently to better serve their needs. I will consult with community and worldwide newspapers, search through websites like http://www.ifad.org and read books on community facing poverty.

ReplyDeleteMeasuring the success rate after individual leaves drug treatment rehabilitation is difficult to determine. All indictors thus far only focuses on the completion rates from the treating institutions via mandate from the court system as a alternative to jail or drug courts from which the individual entered because of an arrest. After completion it is totally up to the individual after getting the help they need to transition back into the mainstream society.
I’m passionate about this topic because after working for years in the field of drug treatment, I have seen much individual return to the facility or another facility or even jail after another relapse or arrest due to their drug use or drug activity. The usual excuse given is the lack of not using the tools given to them to make the transition back to society an easier one. It is often difficult to watch clients I have worked with for many months did not give themselves a break to become responsible and productive members of society. With the desire to further my education and helping others to better help themselves, the process to learn more on how to better assist those of addiction propelled me to want to continue the process of learning new ways on how to assist those in need.
This paper will help me learn more on how to determine the success rate of individuals after they are discharge from treatment. What is considered to be measures of success? How it affects the community as a whole. In order to get this information I will have to research journals such as Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment, Drug treatment facilities completion statistics via websites or in person interview, New York State drug courts statistics on the local level.

In March of 2008 the first to collapse was the mortgage giant Bear Stearns which couldn’t withstand an enormous number of sub prime mortgages going bad during the previous year. Shortly after that, when Lehman Brothers fell, who much like Bear Stearns had a big part of business tied to the housing market, the global recession became a reality. During these turbulent two years the public learned more about finances and economy then it did in decades before. Unfortunately for many, the lessons came with a price. There are still issues being investigated by four different comities, trying to answer questions we each have or at least give us better idea as to why it all happened, so that people can look forward and plan the future with confidence.
ReplyDeleteThe events that took place in the financial world back in 2008 and 2009 had a direct impact on lives of people who I work with and those I know otherwise. These events also played a major role in shaping my understanding of the importance of my own integrity as Financial Services Representative registered with and working for a major US corporation servicing financial needs of American families, as well as companies and professionals across the nation.
To best investigate these matters I need to engage into archive research, referring to past issues of publications like “The Wall Street Journal”, “Business Week” and also some informative websites like Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (fcic.gov), Morningstar.com and others.
